What we do in Andheri

We work with SEEPZ software engineers navigating ESOP vesting and concentration risk, OTT and Bollywood freelancers building discipline around project-sized income, and NRI families in western Mumbai managing remittances, NRE accounts, and cross-border property holdings. Our advice spans ESOP liquidation strategy, ULIP exit decisions, insurance gap analysis, and long-term investment planning. We keep the language plain.

Investments are primarily through Mutual Funds; PMS is considered where the portfolio warrants it. Reviews happen quarterly so your plan keeps pace with your career, income changes, and life goals. Everything is documented. You always know where you stand and what comes next.

What we see most from Andheri's corporate and creative professionals: ESOPs vesting with no plan to sell or diversify. A ULIP sold at age 27 that is now a drag on long-term returns. NRE accounts belonging to family members abroad that nobody has structured properly. These are the three most common starting points in our Andheri conversations.

FAQs

1. Do I need to visit the Andheri office?

Not always. Most Andheri clients start with a virtual call. If you prefer in-person, we are at The Summit Business Park on Andheri-Kurla Road. We confirm appointments during the first call.

2. How long is the first call?

Usually 20-30 minutes. We understand your goals and current setup, and outline next steps. There is no product pitch in the first call.

3. How do fees work?

Fees depend on the engagement type and portfolio size. We explain them clearly before you decide, with no surprises. As a SEBI-registered RIA, we earn fees only from you, not commissions from products.

4. I have ESOPs at my SEEPZ or MIDC company. How should I handle them?

ESOPs (Employee Stock Option Plans) are taxed as a perquisite (salary income) in the year they vest, based on the fair market value minus the exercise price. When you later sell the shares, the gain is taxed as capital gains: STCG (Short-Term Capital Gains) if held under 12 months, or LTCG (Long-Term Capital Gains, taxed at 12.5% above ₹1.25 lakh) if held over 12 months. The bigger issue for most SEEPZ professionals is concentration risk: holding 40-80% of net worth in a single employer's stock. A staged selling plan, ideally combined with an STP (Systematic Transfer Plan) into a diversified equity portfolio, addresses both the tax and the concentration problem simultaneously.

5. As a freelance actor, OTT creator, or media professional in Mumbai, how do I build a financial plan with irregular income?

The single most effective rule for creative freelancers: invest the day income arrives, not after expenses. Keep a 6-month emergency fund in a liquid mutual fund (not a savings account) as the base. Advance tax is payable quarterly in June, September, December, and March, based on estimated annual income. Many entertainment professionals qualify for the presumptive tax scheme under Section 44ADA (50% of gross receipts treated as income), which simplifies compliance. The goal is to treat SIP instalments like a fixed monthly cost, not a surplus that appears after spending. A planned SIP pause mechanism handles dry months without breaking the habit.

6. My family holds an NRE account and property in Andheri for my NRI sibling. Is this a FEMA problem?

Potentially, yes. Under FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act, India's law governing cross-border money flows), an NRI cannot hold property in India in a resident family member's name as a beneficial owner without proper documentation. If a resident parent holds a flat whose purchase was funded by an NRI child, the transaction should be structured as a gift (documented), which brings different FEMA and income tax implications on any eventual sale. NRE accounts belong to the NRI and must not be operated by the resident family member as if they were their own. The most common Andheri NRI family situation to resolve: repatriation of property sale proceeds, which requires Form 15CA/CB and stays within the USD 1 million annual FEMA ceiling. A SEBI-registered advisor, coordinating with your CA, can map the full structure before any transaction.

7. How do I verify a financial advisor in Andheri is SEBI-registered?

Search the SEBI intermediaries list at sebi.gov.in under Investment Advisers. A registered RIA must follow a fiduciary standard and cannot earn commissions on products they recommend. Finnovate's SEBI RIA number is INA000013518, registered since June 2019. In Andheri, most financial advisors visible on JustDial or IndiaMART are mutual fund distributors or ULIP-selling insurance agents, commission-based intermediaries with no legal obligation to act in your interest.
